Pistorius specifically referred to Typhon-type rocket launchers, which can hit targets 2,000 kilometers away and, consequently, reach Russia.
Germany could thus significantly increase its defense and deterrence capabilities, and also those of Europe, the Minister claimed in statements to the national press.
The main objective of Pistorius’s visit to the US was to reach an agreement on the delivery of more Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, an operation that Germany will have to fund with more than two billion euros.
According to DPA, no agreement was reached on the matter. Pistorius demanded that his counterpart honor former President Joe Biden’s commitment to stationing medium-range weapons in Germany starting in 2026.
“I am very confident that the announcement from last year’s anniversary summit in Washington will be kept,” Pistorius said.
There has yet to be official confirmation from the US side regarding the missile deployment.
In response to the US request for long-range missiles, Pistorius said, Hegseth reacted positively.
