Ukrainian Parliament approves Sviridenko as prime minister

Kiev, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) The Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian unicameral parliament) today approved the appointment of deputy prime minister, Yulia Sviridenko, to the post of chief of the Cabinet, deputy Alexei Goncharenko reported today.

The lawmaker wrote on his Telegram channel on Thursday that the parliament supported Sviridenko’s appointment to the post of prime minister, with 262 deputies voting in favor.

The day before Goncharenko announced that the deputies voted in favor of the removal of Denis Shmigal from the post of prime minister and the dissolution of the government.

Later the president, Vladimir Zelensky, reported that he signed and sent to the Verkhovna Rada documents on the appointment of Shmigal as defense minister.

On July 14 Zelensky announced that he had proposed Sviridenko to head the government, but did not specify what position Shmigal would occupy, although in the corridors of the Verkhovna Rada it was said that he would be the new Defense Minister, while Ustem Umerov would leave that portfolio to become Ukrainian ambassador to Washington.
