Violence kills more than 500 people in southern Syria

Havana, July 17 (Prensa Latina) The number of deaths caused by the wave of violence that has been raging in the southern Syrian province of Sweida since last Sunday is already more than 516, among civilians and military personnel, according to human rights organizations.

According to reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the victims have resulted both from armed clashes and summary executions perpetrated by the opposing sides: Druze militias on one side, and government forces alongside tribal militias on the other.

The organization also warned of an increasing displacement of Bedouin families in various areas of the governorate, while reliable local sources report that Druze fighters have besieged neighborhoods inhabited by Bedouin tribes.

These residents live in a climate of fear and anxiety about the possible escalation of conflict, with sectarian and regional connotations.

Images and videos on social media provide evidence for the execution of three Bedouin civilians, including a child and a woman, at the hands of local Druze factions in the city of Sweida, in acts marked by extreme brutality.

The civilian population has requested urgent protection to prevent further reprisals and human rights violations.

The Observatory also reported that 54 members of the Defense Ministry have been killed in recent clashes, as well as 43 Druze civilians.

In a particularly alarming event, the organization recorded at least 56 executions of Druze civilians, whose bodies were found on different streets and neighborhoods in and around Sweida.
