Ecuador’s unions to sue law that facilitates dismissals

Quito, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of organizations affiliated with the Public Services International will file a lawsuit in Ecuador, before the Constitutional Court, against the Public Integrity Law, which not alone violates labor rights but also facilitates dismissals.

This regulation has been widely criticized by social and union organizations for generating instability among employees, something that materialized last week after the Government of President Daniel Noboa announced the dismissal of 5,000 public officials.

The National Confederation of Public Servants of Ecuador strongly rejected layoffs, which were described as a “regression of rights.” It criticized the Executive for blaming those officials for a lack of efficiency and an alleged “obstruction” of services.

A call for a mobilization this Thursday that will tour the Ministries of Environment, Women and Human Rights, and Culture and Heritage is also circulating on social media.

These three institutions will be merged with other ministries as part of the Executive’s “administrative efficiency plan,” which decided to reduce the number of ministries from 20 to 14 and the number of secretariats from nine to three.

This decision entails an attack on rights and a grave disregard for vulnerable populations and territories, states the call for the march.

The demonstrators, while passing by the Israeli Embassy in Quito, will decry President Noboa who is carrying out, they agree, a neo-colonization of State with the political, economic, and security support of the Israeli regime and the United States.
