Italy lags behind European levels in digital competence

Rome, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Only 46,0% of Italians between the ages of 17 and 74 have basic digital skills, hindering the country's development in this field, a report indicates.

A report published on the digital news site of the television channel Sky TG24, based on data obtained from a recent survey conducted by the polling firm Eurobarometer, poit out that this figure is lower than the European average of 54 percentage points and falls far short of the regional target of 80% set for 2030.

Furthermore, this percentage falls below 30 points among those over 60, while the gap between northern and southern Italian regions is widening, favoring the former, where access to these technologies is higher.

Peaks of marginalization are observed in many inland and rural areas, especially in southern Italy, and a generational and structural gap is also evident, this analysis highlights.

While more than 70% of Italians under 30 use digital tools daily, that percentage among those over 65 decreases significantly.
