Mexico City hosts Literary Fair

Mexico City, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Literature lovers are experiencing the 25th edition of the International Book Fair in Mexico City's Zocalo square, considered the largest, freest, and diverse gathering of its kind in the country.

Promoted by Mexico City Secretariat of Culture and the Brigade to Read in Freedom, the literary event promises a wide range of options, with more than 500 cultural activities, workshops for children, and unique offers for purchasing books.

The city’s Culture Minister, Ana Francis Lopez-Bayghen, emphasized during the opening ceremony that the event represents the spirit of the city administration’s cultural programs, which seek to make art, reading, and culture accessible rights for all.

Lopez-Bayghen said, “This fair reminds us that reading is not a luxury, but a tool for freedom, encounter, and collective thinking. We work, from the Culture Ministry, to ensure that every neighborhood has its reading spot, so that books are accessible to everyone.”

This year’s fair features four forums inspired by quotes of great authors, featuring free-admission activities such as book launches and talks, readings, poetry, music, and performances for all ages.

The literary festival, which brings together more than 300 national, international, and independent publishing houses, will remain in Mexico City’s Zocalo square until October 19.
