The airport was recaptured by the Army last March, after nearly two years in the hands of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), almost since the start of the war in April 2023.
According to the Sudanese news site Sudan Tribune, the airport’s air defenses intercepted several drones, although several possible impacts were observed.
Authorities have not yet reported any casualties or the extent of the damage caused by the attack.
The airport was scheduled to reopen nationwide, after undergoing extensive renovation work, having suspended operations following the outbreak of the war between the Army and the RSF.
Since mid-April 2023, this African nation has been mired in an internal war, after power struggles between Army Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, have intensified.
The fighting has already destroyed countless livelihoods, plunging the country into a complex spiral of hunger and deajdt/jav/mem/fvt
