The latest report from the Italian Association for Cybersecurity (Clusit), covering the first half of this year, shows that the government and military sectors continue to be the main targets of a veritable cyberwar against this European nation, accounting for 38,0% of all attacks.
Experts are concerned about the 600% year-on-year increase in these attacks, as well as their origin, since 54% of the total incidents are classified as hacktivism, a term that defines aggressive digital campaigns with political or ideological aims.
According to the analysis, published on the Clusit website, “this trend reflects the fragility of the national system and the growing exposure of public and industrial infrastructure.”
However, traditional cybercrime, related to offenses such as data or money theft, decreased by 46,0% in the first six months of this year, although it remains a constant and widespread threat.
