Uruguay expands complaint in conflict with Cardama shipyard

Montevideo, Dec. 24 (Prensa Latina) The Uruguayan government reaffirmed its decision to pursue legal action regarding the termination of its contract with the Spanish shipyard Cardama, which until now had been responsible for building two ocean patrol vessels for the Navy.

The Executive Branch submitted an addendum to its complaint filed with the Prosecutor’s Office, this time including an expert analysis requested by the Ministry of Defense from the Ministry of the Interior.

This analysis concluded that the digital signature on the contract’s performance bond document is not original but a forgery, government sources confirmed.

This is the second addendum to the complaint filed personally with the Prosecutor’s Office by Alejandro Sanchez and Jorge Diaz, Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Presidency, respectively.

The Minister of National Defense, Sandra Lazo that the government will suspend payments to the shipyard until a judicial resolution of the case is reached.

This comes after President Yamandu Orsi himself announced in October the decision to begin the process of terminating the contract with the ship manufacturer.
