The meeting will continue until tomorrow and is taking place at the invitation of the host country’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, who will meet with both diplomats.

The dialogue comes a day after the two nations signed a joint declaration of a cessation of hostilities, effective since noon on December 27, after weeks of intense armed clashes and attacks.

The Thai Ministry of Defense indicated that the agreement stipulates the maintenance of current military positions, a ban on reinforcements and attacks, and an initial 72-hour observation period to verify compliance.

Bangkok also announced that it will release 18 captured Cambodian soldiers once the verification period concludes, in accordance with international practices following the end of hostilities.

For its part, Cambodia’s Ministry of Defense warned that any troop increase would exacerbate tensions and undermine efforts toward a lasting solution.

A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the 27th that Beijing welcomes the signing of the ceasefire, considering dialogue an effective way to resolve complex disputes.
