“President Trump personally asked President Vladimir Putin to refrain from attacking Kiev for a week, until February 1, to create favorable conditions for negotiations, and Moscow agreed to refrain from attacks,” the Kremlin spokesman told the press.
However, Peskov did not clarify whether the suspension of military actions is general or only applies to attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities.
The White House chief stated yesterday that his counterpart from Russia accepted his request not to attack various Ukrainian cities.
“I personally asked President Putin not to fire on Kiev and the various cities for a week. And he agreed to do so,” Trump declared.
In that context, he asserted that Russia had already begun implementing the truce and that “it’s much colder in Ukraine,” for which they expressed their gratitude for Moscow’s decision.
The US president added that significant progress toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict was evident, amid ongoing tripartite negotiations that, according to the Kremlin, will resume on February 1 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
