The Avellaneda Hall of Havana’s National Theater will once again witness the virtuosity of the dancers, who will take to the stage on April 17, 18, and 19 to honor the legacy of an essential figure in the company’s history.
They will also perform Aria suspendida and La morte del cisne, two premieres by Italian choreographer Mauro de Candia; along with Symphony for Nine Men by James Kelly; Munecos by Alberto Mendez; and pas de deux from Le Corsaire and Excelsior.
Jose Pares was a principal character dancer, an exceptional teacher, and a choreographer, according to a statement from the Cuban National Ballet (BNC), which highlights the mastery with which he portrayed the role in La Fille Mal Gardee.
The statement adds that he “masterfully” interpreted the role of Mama Simone in this ballet, beginning with the premiere of prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso’s choreographic version in 1952.
Rickets for these performances will be available at the National Theater box office starting Tuesday, April 7, between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. local time.
