Diario El Salvador highlights Cuban drug Jusvinza

San Salvador, April 6 (Prensa Latina) A study shows that a Cuban drug alleviates the painful aftereffects of the Chikungunya virus, reports Diario El Salvador.

The country’s most widely circulated publication, notes that clinical trials began in early December 2025 with the aim of verifying the therapeutic effect and safety of the product in these types of patients.

Phase 2 clinical trials of the Cuban drug Jusvinza showed its effectiveness in relieving the symptoms of pain and swelling in secondary joints in patients recovering from the virus, the report states, citing an article from the Xinhua News Agency.

The information was confirmed by Julio Baldomero, director of Clinical Research at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), during this week’s meeting on health issues with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.

The specialist said that the final data confirmed the researchers’ hypothesis, stating that they “resolved the painful and inflammatory symptoms of the secondary joints caused by this virus,” whose transmission by mosquitoes has affected tropical regions of the world.

Jusvinza is an innovative therapeutic product developed by the CIGB (Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology), whose active ingredient is a peptide originally designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis.

With its own biotechnology industry that produces vaccines, innovative drugs, and medical equipment, Cuba seeks to provide therapeutic alternatives both to its population and to international markets.
