At the event, dedicated to the centenary of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the 66th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Moscow and Havana, the graduates received diplomas of recognition from their country’s diplomatic mission in Russia.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador to Moscow, Enrique Orta, stated that education is a matter of boundless love, and the collaboration between Russia and his country in this field is a testament to that.
Orta noted that over the past 15 years, the 100-scholarship program has benefited more than a thousand Cuban students who have enhanced their knowledge at 25 Russian universities, generally achieving favorable academic results and receiving training with high standards of quality and scientific and technical rigor.
The diplomat emphasized that the graduates’ specializations correspond to priorities for strategic sectors such as energy, oil, rail transport, the environment, tourism, and agriculture, and that they will apply what they have learned at a complex and decisive time for the country.
Meanwhile, the rector of the Pushkin Institute, Nikita Gusev, stated that since 1977 the institution he leads has taught the Russian language to nearly 350,000 Cubans, and that hundreds of teachers from the Caribbean nation have improved their level of knowledge at the institute, which is a testament to a strong friendship.
He also congratulated all the Cuban students who graduated and wished them success in their future work upon returning home.
On behalf of the graduates, Odalys Maria Sanchez stated that the period of study provided them with the necessary tools to face current challenges once they are in their jobs, challenges that require a change in the way they think and act.
