The Catalan city—located in northeastern Spain and known as the “Gateway to the Costa Brava”—advanced the initiative with votes from Comuns, CUP, PSC, ERC, BlanesSi, and Grup Blanes, all political organizations that stand in solidarity with Cuba.
The Julio Trigo Catalan-Cuban Friendship Center (*Casal d’Amistat Catala Cuba*) and the “Soc de Cuba, soy popular” Cuban association were responsible for presenting the motion.
The motion includes a commitment to name a public space after Jose Marti, Cuba’s National Hero, in order to strengthen cultural ties.
It was also reported that the conservative People’s Party (PP) and the far-right Vox party voted against the measure, while the right-wing Junts party and an independent councilor abstained.
The institutional agreement includes a commitment to support humanitarian aid campaigns organized by social groups.
