During a dialogue session parallel to the Aspen Security Forum, the Jordanian foreign minister called for respect for the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and for diplomacy to be used to reach a comprehensive solution to the causes of regional tension.
Safadi rejected Tehran’s claims about the presence of US bases on Jordanian territory and explained that US forces are in the country under a defense cooperation agreement that, he asserted, fully respects national sovereignty.
He added that this presence is part of joint efforts to combat terrorism. The minister emphasized that Jordan and the other Arab states are not party to the current conflict and remembered that the countries of the region have worked to establish good relations with Iran.
However, he noted that these relations must be based on respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the domestic affairs of Arab states.
Regarding Palestine, Safadi called for the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza with the aim of ending the humanitarian catastrophe in the enclave.
He also demanded a halt to Israeli measures that, in his view, undermine the two-state solution and reduce the chances of achieving a just peace.
With respect to Lebanon, he reiterated Jordan’s support for that country’s sovereignty and demanded Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied territories.
