Culture builds bridges between Cuba and the United States

Havana, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) Culture rises above various obstacles to build bridges between the peoples of Cuba and the United States, defying the blockade imposed on the island for more than six decades.   With this aim, a delegation of African American academics visited the Quintin Bandera Cultural Center in Havana today; the center serves as the headquarters for the *Color Cubano* Social Observatory.   In an atmosphere of fraternal dialogue, participants exchanged experiences and ideas to strengthen mutual cooperation—such as organizing courses and gatherings, developing cultural tourism proposals, and forging alliances with small and medium-sized enterprises.

They also explored the possibility of undertaking graphic arts projects, potentially featuring works by Cuban poet and National Literature Prize winner Nancy Morejon and African American writer Alice Walker, among other notable figures.

The goal is to deepen academic collaboration and create cracks in the U.S. blockade that seeks to suffocate the lives of the Cuban people, stated Rolando Julio Rensoli, the institution’s director, during the meeting.

“We must cultivate relationships as broadly as possible and without exceptions,” emphasized Rensoli, who also serves as secretary of the Executive Coordinating Group for the *Color Cubano* National Program Against Racism and Racial Discrimination.

The occasion also provided an opportunity to showcase the work of Cambute S.R.L., a company dedicated to graphic arts in the country.

Educators, artists, and legal professionals from various parts of the United States gained firsthand insight into the country’s reality—though some had visited the island previously and openly championed the Cuban people’s cause, such as intellectual Rose Mary Mealy, who is leading the visiting delegation.
