“On August 5, 2026, the first Uzbek Earth remote sensing satellite, Samarkand-2028, was launched into orbit from a floating launch platform in the Yellow Sea, off the coast of China’s Shandong province,” the Central Asian nation’s agency announced.
The statement also notes that the satellite was developed jointly with the Chinese company Star.Vision and belongs to the class of hyperspectral Earth remote sensing satellites.
The artificial intelligence module installed on the spacecraft was created by specialists from Uzbekcosmos.
Data obtained by the satellite will be used in agriculture, water resource management, ecology, emergency monitoring, and urban planning, Uzbekosmos added.
