Iran: IRGC spokesperson denies secret talks with US

Tehran, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Spokesperson Hossein Mohebi denied having hold secret talks by officials of that force and the United States, affirming that diplomatic matters are the responsibility of the appropriate state institutions.

The Tasnim news agency reported that Mohebi rejected claims by US President Donald Trump regarding alleged “secret backchannels” with IRGC officials.

The spokesperson described those statements as “illusions emerged from defeat and desperation in the war” and reiterated that diplomacy is not within the purview of that military body.

He also stated, “There are currently no talks with US officials due to the repeated violations of agreements committed by that nation.”

The statements come amid heightened tensions between the two countries, following the US and Israeli airstrike on Iran on February 28 and Tehran’s subsequent response against Israel and targets that, according to Iranian authorities, were linked to US facilities in the region.
