Cuban Education: Conditions set for the New School Year

Havana, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Minister of Education Ariatne Trujillo stated that the necessary conditions are in place for the start of the new school year, despite the difficult situation the country is facing.

At a press conference, the official highlighted a positive aspect for the upcoming term: the securing of the essential study materials needed to implement the third phase of the Cuban education system’s improvement program.

One of the main challenges for this new academic year will be how to support students in the most vulnerable situations.

“Sometimes, what an adolescent needs is support regarding the logistics of their daily commute to school,” she stated.

Trujillo explained that measures are currently being devised to ensure teaching staffs are fully staffed across the various educational levels.

To this end, students from teacher-training programs will be brought in to teach classes, and salary incentives for educators will be promoted.

In this regard, she outlined the alternatives being implemented to ensure students can attend classes. “We are asking teachers for flexibility.

Our children will attend wearing their neckerchiefs, and we will look for ways for them to be comfortable in whatever clothing allows them to attend; therefore, there will be no strict dress code requirements,” she emphasized.

The introduction of Russian as a foreign language is another new feature of this academic year.
