Augusto Sanchez, president of the ADP’s Salcedo chapter, noted that renovation work at the Emiliano Tejeda High School remains stalled; this project was supposed to pave the way for more extensive maintenance work starting back in April.
Among the issues highlighted, he cited the Ramin Arsenio Alba High School, where the construction of a covered sports court has been underway for four years yet remains less than 30 percent complete.
He also mentioned unfinished projects, inadequate sports facilities, and a lack of classrooms at the Rancho Abajo and Mélida Delgado schools.
According to the union leader, schools in the area have gone more than six months without receiving decentralized funding, making it difficult to meet basic needs.
The complaints from Salcedo (in the country’s north-central region) come amidst a national agenda of ADP demands regarding school conditions, the hiring of teaching, administrative, and support staff, school meal programs, and compliance with the Teachers’ Statute.
Protests have also been reported in other areas. In Tamayo, Bahoruco province (southwest), the local chapter organized a march to demand more classrooms and improvements to school facilities.
Meanwhile, in San Francisco de Macoris (northeast), there are demands for solutions to infrastructure problems and staff shortages, according to local media reports.
