Cuban and Mexican universities sign collaboration agreements

Cienfuegos, Cuba, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) – The "Carlos Rafael Rodriguez" University of Cienfuegos (UCf), Cuba, and the Polytechnic University of Yucatan, Mexico, formalized a collaboration agreement in the presence of officials and representatives from both institutions.

During the meeting, UCf Rector Orquidea Urquiola highlighted the importance of this agreement in fostering cooperation in scientific areas with significant societal impact, such as the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Ariel Gomez Sarria, expressed appreciation for the opportunities offered by this agreement, particularly regarding the continuing education of specialists and the identification of areas of mutual interest between the two universities.

Representing the Mexican institution, Freddy Herve Basulto Castillo, Director of Institutional Liaison, emphasized the possibilities the agreement opens up for strengthening curriculum internationalization, especially in fields like cybersecurity and other disciplines of interest to students and faculty.

Adrian Abreus Gonzalez, UCf’s Director of Internationalization, told Prensa Latina that the agreement is highly significant; although the University of Yucatan was founded only ten years ago, it is the leading institution in Mexico in the fields of artificial intelligence and data science, which will allow the Cuban counterpart to expand its knowledge base.

He also noted that, as part of the agreement, students and faculty from the Mexican university were invited to participate in the 4th International Scientific Convention of the University of Cienfuegos, scheduled for October 20–23 of this year.

This agreement represents a significant step toward strengthening academic ties between Cuba and Mexico, fostering scientific and technological cooperation, and creating new opportunities for training, research, and international exchange.
