Uruguay’s FA reaffirms anti-imperialist stance, opposes oligarchies

Montevideo, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) — Uruguay’s Frente Amplio (Broad Front) has reaffirmed its anti-oligarchic, anti-imperialist, anti-patriarchal, and anti-racist principles as the guiding tenets of its ongoing political action.

This is comprised in the General Resolution of its 8th Congress, which paid tribute to “Companero” Pepe Mujica, recognizing him as a benchmark for “humanism and the values of the Left.”

The text highlights the democratic nature of this political force, following a unified and participatory process of policy development and discussion—a process that included hundreds of assemblies within grassroots committees and working groups, involving more than 12,000 participants.

It notes that over 2,000 motions were submitted for the Congress’s consideration, with hundreds of contributions incorporated into the final document—”most of them backed by a broad consensus.”

The resolution acknowledges progress achieved during the party’s time in government, as well as gains resulting from the mobilization and political action of Frente Amplio members through social organizations, the trade union movement, and other initiatives centered on active citizen participation.

The reduction of poverty—and the effort to address its root causes—clearly illustrates that there are two competing visions for the country, and it defines the priorities of the project that the Frente Amplio is promoting and building, the text emphasizes.

The resolution also rejects the intensification of the blockade on the Cuban people, the genocide in Palestine, and various wars and unilateral interventions.
