The mobilization, which will include members of social and solidarity-based organizations, will depart from the University of Panama and travel through central thoroughfares of the capital, concluding with a rally in support of the Caribbean nation near its diplomatic mission.
In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, AMCRP president Roberto Leon highlighted the importance of this initiative in light of the upcoming debate at the United Nations General Assembly regarding a resolution—presented by Cuba—that calls for the lifting of this hostile policy. The debate is scheduled for October 27 and 28, according to the announcement.
This call comes ahead of a new international discussion regarding the U.S. embargo against the island, occurring in a context where Havana has denounced diplomatic pressures aimed at altering the positions of UN member states regarding the aforementioned resolution.
In this regard, just yesterday, members of the Cuban Mission to the UN condemned an event organized by the U.S. delegation—labeling it “anti-Cuban”—and questioned the presence of individuals who, according to their claims, are linked to terrorist acts against the island.
Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ernesto Soberon, stated that these actions are part of a broader pattern of intimidation and political pressure exerted on sovereign nations to influence their votes.
Furthermore, he noted that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reached out to various heads of state and government in an attempt to shift the positions of their respective countries.
