The UN website for Palestine reported that about 294,250 families need shelter to cope with winter season’s conditions.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) noted that supplies have allowed partial shelter assistance to be provided to 18 percent of the families in need.
The Government Media Office in Gaza reported on August 17 that 2.15 million displaced Palestinians, comprising 509,393 families, were living in extreme humanitarian conditions and more than 800,000 people were staying in uninhabitable tents.
In September, the Office warned of deteriorating living conditions for hundreds of thousands of displaced people as winter approaches, stating that more than 60 percent of the tents were damaged and needed immediate replacement.
Palestinian organizations and United Nations human rights groups have previously warned that storms and flooding have destroyed thousands of tents and temporary shelters, forcing many families to endure cold, damp, and insecure conditions.
The crisis is further exacerbated by reduced food aid due to a lack of funding.
