“Peru has historically and systematically voted in favor of lifting the blockade against Cuba,” he told Prensa Latina, adding that doing so “is also an act of solidarity with the people of Cuba.”
“The blockade violates international law and runs counter to the principles and the Charter of the United Nations. The legal position of voting in favor of the resolution has not been dependent on the political orientation of the [various] Peruvian governments,” Rodriguez added.

He added that “the current government should act accordingly—by voting in favor of the resolution, which is to vote in favor of respecting the peremptory norms of international law.”
