An investigation by the newspaper *Folha de S. Paulo* indicates that the lawmaker and his family crossed into Argentina via Foz do Iguacu, in the state of Parana—a border corridor previously used by other figures associated with “Bolsonarism” who left Brazil to evade the reach of the justice system.
Among them are former congresswoman Carla Zambelli and Silvinei Vasques, the former director of the Federal Highway Police.
Zambelli crossed that border by car before continuing her journey to the United States and Italy, while Vasques was detained at the airport in Asuncion, Paraguay, as he attempted to board a flight to El Salvador.
The report also identifies Leonardo Rodrigues de Jesus—known as “Leo Indio,” a cousin of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s eldest sons—as being in the region. He is a fugitive from Brazilian justice due to his alleged involvement in the events of January 8.
He has been residing in Puerto Iguazu, on the Argentine side of the border, since 2025.
In an interview with a local television station, he expressed satisfaction regarding Flavio’s departure from Brazil, while describing the mobilization that culminated in the storming and destruction of government headquarters in Brasília in 2023 as “peaceful.”
According to *Folha*, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) reported in November 2024 that 61 Brazilians were in Argentina as fugitives due to their connection to the attempted coup, though it did not specify how many had entered via land crossings.
The journalistic investigation notes that numerous questions remain regarding Flavio Bolsonaro’s departure—including how he left Brasília, the route he took, and who facilitated his travel.
