Ethiopian Minister of Health, Mekdes Daba, informed at a press conference that the meeting scheduled for November 23-27 in this capital will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, researchers and international partners to promote health sovereignty, self-sufficiency and regional cooperation.

Under the theme “Strengthening Africa’s Health Sovereignty, Security and Continental Autonomy,” the conference seeks to drive the continent’s transition: move from reliance on external support to greater ownership of their own health priorities and build capacity to meet challenges.

Daba noted that Africa needs stronger national systems, increased local production of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, improved emergency response capacity, and enhanced regional collaboration to strengthen its preparation for public-health threats.

He highlighted digital health as a key area of transformation, indicating that the conference will provide Ethiopia with an opportunity to share its progress under the 2030 digital sector strategy and explore continental cooperation on health innovation.

He also highlighted opportunities to strengthen health infrastructure, expand institutional partnerships and explore joint initiatives, as well as health tourism.

As of November 1, more than 29,000 participants from over 114 countries were registered, and attendance is expected to reach approximately 30,000.

In addition, more than 4,000 national delegates registered, and new opportunities for registration at the local level will be made available.

According to the Ethiopian minister, so far they have received more than six thousand scientific summaries, of which more than one thousand were selected for presentation. More than 70 exhibitions – from over five countries – and more than 177 side events are also planned.
