Dominican hospitals activate protocols amid border tensions

Santo Domingo, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) The National Health Service (NHS) of the Dominican Republic activated emergency protocols and prepared medical teams at hospitals in the border region, in anticipation of potential contingencies related to the tense situation in Haiti.

The measure includes multidisciplinary teams—comprising surgeons, orthopedists, intensive care specialists, and anesthesiologists—as well as the availability of intensive care units to treat individuals requiring emergency assistance.

As part of this preparedness effort, the NHS has linked its network of hospital helipads with the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate the transport and reception of patients in need of specialized medical care.

According to an official statement, the directive also encompasses other facilities within the public health network deemed to be of strategic importance.

Among the centers identified for this response are the Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City, the Dr. Ney Arias Lora Trauma Hospital, the Prof. Juan Bosch Trauma and Surgical Hospital, the Dr. Pedro Emilio de Marchena Provincial Hospital, and the Dr. Angel Contreras Provincial Hospital.

The initiative covers both border-area hospitals and other public health facilities located in Santo Domingo, the NHS reported.
