Cuban delegation, Xinhua strengthen friendship and cooperation

Beijing, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) Xinhua News Agency and Cuban representatives reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening historical bonds of friendship and expanding bilateral cooperation during a meeting held as part of the 7th World Media Summit.

Liudmila Alamo Duenas, Deputy Head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee at the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), and Xinhua’s Editor-in-Chief, Lyu Yansong, led the meeting.

Alamo highlighted the significance of Cuba’s participation in the Summit for reinforcing alliances between media outlets, given the complex situation the island is currently facing.

During the meeting, Prensa Latina Information Vice President Alejandro Gomez thanked Xinhua’s support for the Latin American agency’s energy transition and underscored the historic ties of friendship between the two institutions, sustained by cooperation agreements spanning more than six decades.

Gomez noted that Prensa Latina’s correspondent office in China was established over 55 years ago, and pointed out that Xinhua journalists even covered the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and China in 1960.

Oscar C. Zaragoza, Director of Cuban Television, expressed appreciation for China’s support in the digital transformation of that media outlet, as well as for donations, credit facilities to purchase equipment and vehicles, and professional training initiatives.

Randy Alonso, director of Ideas Multimedios, called for advancing bilateral cooperation in communications and in using Artificial Intelligence (AI), through new exchange and professional training.

Yuniel Labacena, director of Juventud Rebelde newspaper, and Isaura Diez, chief correspondent for Prensa Latina in China, were also present.
