Sweden and Cuba highlight good state of bilateral relations

Stockholm, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) Bilateral relations and the international situation were discussed by Cuban Ambassador to Sweden Alba Soto Pimentel and a senior official from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic sources reported on Thursday.

The Cuban representative highlighted aspects related to the strategy to fight the Covid-19 pandemic in Cuba and the serious effects the tightening of the United States blockade.

Pimentel noted the forthcoming presentation to the United Nations of the draft resolution ‘Necessity to end the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States against Cuba’, and appreciated Sweden’s traditional support for Cuba.

For his part, the director of the Policy Department for the UN, Conflicts and Humanitarian Affairs in the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Carl Skau, provided a broad overview of the various issues under his jurisdiction, and addressed the intense actions of Sweden in the international arena.

The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, and both parties expressed interest in continuing exchanging viewpoints, respecting the health protocols due to the incidence of Covid-19.
