Ecuador’s presidential runoff proceeds smoothly

Quito, Apr 11 (Prensa Latina) The second round of presidential elections in Ecuador is proceeding normally, officials of the National Electoral Council (CNE) confirmed on Sunday in most of the polling stations.

Three hours after the opening of the polls, at 07:00 local time, CNE president Diana Atamaint issued the first report in a national transmission, according to which no inconveniences have been reported in the process.

According to provided data, at 08:00, 100 percent of the Voting Receiving Boards were installed nationwide and until 09:45, 12.5 percent of the voters had gone to the polls.

Meanwhile, CNE vice president Enrique Pita highlighted the flow of people to the different polling stations, which in his opinion shows concern and desire to participate in the elections.

Likewise, he pointed out that of the 39,915 Voting Receiving Boards enabled, 68.34 were installed with main members and 23.7 with alternates, while less than eight percent required the support of members of other polling stations or registered citizens.

Counselor Jose Cabrera pointed out that in coordination with the Integrated Security System ECU 911, the Armed Forces and the National Police are monitoring the entrance to the polling stations, in order to avoid crowds that could lead to Covid-19 infections.
