Peru projects a 10% economic growth in 2021

Lima, May 1 (Prensa Latina) Peruvian Economy Minister Waldo Mendoza on Friday ratified the country´s official projection of 10% GDP growth in 2021 and 4.5% per year for the 2022-2024 period.

Forecasts contrasted with catastrophic economy scenario presented by the neoliberal press as part of a campaign that seeks to sow fear among voters, so that they do not vote for left-winger Pedro Castillo next June 6.

The 10% growth is Peru´s highest rate since 1994, and Mendoza added that it is expected to reach 35% in the current second quarter, after a stiff drop in 2020 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

When presenting the Update Report on 2021-2024 Macroeconomic Projections, Mendoza said that Peru´s economic activity was moderately affected in the first two months of the year by the second wave of Covid-19 contagion. He added that electricity production increased by 14.8% and imports by 42.6% in 2020.
