WHO confirms Sinopharm vaccine efficacy in Peru

Lima, May 6 (Prensa Latina) Chinese Sinopharm vaccine´s effectiveness confirmation proved wrong a smear campaign against the immunizer, hampering its supply to Peru, according to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO) that checked that vaccine's quality (91% efficacy).

The WHO report denied the campaign launched by Biologist Ernesto Bustamante, elected member of Parliament for the Neoliberal Fuerza Popular Party and in charge of presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori´s health team, who said that Sinopharm vaccine was ineffective and useless.

‘It is distilled water,’ said Bustamante about Sinopharm, as recalled by La República newspaper, stating that ‘such an overwhelming appreciation cannot be gratuitous or disinterested.’

After noting that political aims to harm the country were put before it, La República called Bustamante to explain and say ‘what encouraged him and what interest he pursued by pointing out such nonsense.’

The misinformation campaign thus prevented 2,500,000 Peruvians from being vaccinated in the last two months, said Percy Mayta-Tristán, Research Director of the Southern Scientific University.

The vaccine supply schedule called for the shipment of two million Sinopharm vaccine doses to the country in March; three million in April, and in May.

It also included batches of six million in June and five million in July, as well as another 18 million from August to November.
