Colombian Ombudsman’s Office reports 42 deaths during strike

Bogota, May 11 (Prensa Latina) The Colombian Ombudsman's Office on Tuesday reported an increase to 42 in the death toll recorded during the 14-day national strike against the policies of the Duque government.

The violent events from April 28 up to date caused 41 civilian fatalities, as well as a police captain, while 168 people remain missing and 104 complaints of alleged human rights violations were received, the entity referred.

Among those, the report contemplates aggressions against integrity, freedom of assembly, expression and opinion, life and personal freedom.

There were established 182 humanitarian corridors in 26 departments for the transit of food, vaccines, fuel, animal feed, through 224 mediations in 138 dialogue tables, authorities from the entity highlighted.

The Ombudsman’s Office repudiated on Twitter the crime of the 19-year-old Santiago Murillo, who had been fighting for his life for six days in the San Jorge hospital in Pereira and finally died on Tuesday.

We categorically reject this vile attack that has no justification whatsoever, in addition to any act of violence against the integrity of people, especially when they are exercising their right to peaceful protest,’ he published.
