On his Twitter account, Diaz-Canel informed about the guidance given to authorities in the provinces that might be affected by the meteorological event, according to the forecast models, and reiterated the call to keep discipline so as not to regret the loss of human lives.

Surface observations from Barbados indicated on Friday that Elsa’s maximum sustained winds reached some 120 kph, so it became a Category 1 hurricane, a warning issued by the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

According to the weather forecast, Elsa will be moving near Jamaica and eastern Cuba on Sunday. Rainfall intensity, wind force and sea effects over this territory will be closely related to its evolution and future trajectory, the meteorological reports stated.

Faced with this situation, Cuba’s Civil Defense issued an Early Warning Notice about the tropical event on Thursday afternoon.
