De Armas participated in four chess Olympiads (1984-1990) and she had been on the podium of Cuba’s national tournaments 16 times: she had been the champion nine times and the runner-up in six occasions, as also a bronze medalist once.

She also took part in four World Olympics, one as first board and three as second.

Born on December 6, 1954, in the 20th century, the Cuban multi-champion obtained her first international award in 1977 when she was crowned in the tournament of Cali, Colombia.

De Armas was a member of the first Cuban women’s team to take part in the World Chess Olympiads, which took place in Lucerne, Switzerland.

She also participated in the world events of Thessaloniki-1984 (Greece), Dubai-1986 (United Arab Emirates) and Novi Sad-1990, in the then Yugoslavia.

She became known in chess in Cuba in 1970 when the player competed in representation of the former province of Las Villas in the 8th National School Games, in which she won the gold medal as first board.
