Iran’s foreign minister suggests redesign of US Iran policy

Tehran, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday suggested US President Joe Biden redesign his policy towards the Islamic Republic, since exerting force has been ineffective so far.

On the sixth anniversary of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or nuclear deal, Zarif recommended to Biden to take another path than the sanctions through which Washington achieved nothing.

‘Six years ago today, the JCPOA solved a problem of Chapter VII of the UN Security Council without resorting to war,’ he wrote on social media.

(Barack) Obama acknowledged that his policy of crippling sanctions, Zarif noted, would not stop Iran or its centrifuges, while (Donald) Trump thought of maximum pressure to achieve his goals, but that didn’t work either.

The United States withdrew from the nuclear deal in May 2018 and reimposed lifted oppressive measures as part of the deal reached between Tehran and six world powers.

During his election campaign, Biden expressed his willingness to return to the multilateral agreement if Iran suspends its countermeasures in response to US violations of the deal.

This is Iran’s position, the head of Iranian diplomacy said. Washington withdrew from the JCPOA, and it is its responsibility to revive it.
