Iranian shooter grabs gold at Tokyo 2020 setting Olympic record

Tokyo, Jul 24 (Prensa Latina) Javad Foroughi, 41, has become the oldest Iranian athlete to win an Olympic medal, grabbing gold in men´s 10-meter air pistol at Tokyo 2020.

Foroughi set an Olympic record of 244.8 points, finishing ahead of silver medalist Damir Mikec of Serbia. China´s Pang Wei, the 2008 gold medalist, took bronze.

The 41-year-old Iranian shooter qualified fifth and immediately jumped to the lead in the finals with a series of shots in the 10-ring. He accumulated 580.25 points, but in finals he reached 244.8, followed by Damir, 237.9, and Wei, 217.6.

Quality preceded the Iranian air pistol shooter, who won two gold medlas at the World Cups held in India and Croatia, so for such a reason Foroughi ranked fourth in the world.
