Iran is center of talks between Israel and US

Tel Aviv, Aug 11 (Prensa Latina) Iran was on Wednesday the center of talks between Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director William Burns, amid growing threats from Tel Aviv against Tehran.

An official communique stated that both officials analyzed cooperation issues in matters of intelligence and security, as well as ‘the situation in the Middle East, with an emphasis on Iran.’

Director of Israel’s Mossad espionage agency David Barnea, National Security Advisor Eyal Hulata, and Bennett’s Foreign Policy Adviser Shimrit Meir, as well as Military Secretary to the head of Government, Gen. Avi Gil, also attended the meeting.

Although Washington is officially willing to return to the nuclear deal with Iran, from which former President Donald Trump withdrew, Bloomberg news agency revealed that the White House is now considering lifting some sanctions if Tehran stops enriching uranium.

Upon his arrival in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, Burns met with Barnea with whom he addressed ‘the issue of Iran’s nuclear project and the regional challenges,’ according to the national press.

The CIA chief’s visit coincides with air maneuvers between the two countries and a verbal escalation by Israeli authorities against Iran, following an attack on an oil tanker leased by an Israeli firm off the coast of Oman.
