Cuba reports losses of international links from earthquake

Havana, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Telecommunications Company (Etecsa) informed its clients today about damages in international links that provide services to the island due to the earthquake that occurred in the region.

According to the entity, as a consequence of this it is probable that instability of the connection service may be perceived during the busiest hours.

Etecsa added that international providers are working on their reestablishment.

Likewise, the company reiterated that it will keep updating the information through its communication channels.

This Saturday, an earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale was reported with an epicenter in the city of Petit Trou, in the Nippes department, located about 130 kilometers southwest of the Haitian capital.

Haiti is located on a vast system of geological faults resulting from the movement of the Caribbean and North American plates, which makes the country prone to earthquakes.

In 2020 alone, the seismology networks of that country registered 499 minor tremors, mainly in the Southeast and Northeast departments.
