WHO approves India homegrown Covid shot for emergency use

vacuna covaxin
New Delhi, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday said it had approved Indian drugmaker Bharat Biotech´s Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use, paving the way for the homegrown shot to be accepted as a valid vaccine in many poor countries.

Covaxin candidate was found to be 78% effective against SARS-CoV-2 and WHO also advised an interval of 14 or more days between immunizations of the two doses of this vaccine.

Covaxin is too suitable for low- and middle-income countries due to its easy storage between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius.

Indian Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, on the other hand, thanked WHO for the approval of its new vaccine candidate.

India applied to the WHO in April to include Covaxin on the emergency use listing.

Some nations including Australia, Oman, Greece, Mauritius and the Philippines, among others, recently recognized the Indian vaccine.
