In the virtual meeting, President Biden said both leaders must work to avoid new conflicts and unfair competition.
Our responsibility as leaders is to guarantee that our rivalry does not turn into an intentional conflict, but as a simple competition, said Joe Biden, who also made it clear that his country will defend its interests and values as well as those of its partners.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, on the other hand, urged Washington to comply with international commitments and called for working together to promote “the noble cause of peace and world development.”
The Chinese president stressed that a healthy and stable relationship is necessary to promote the respective development of both nations and to safeguard a peaceful and stable international environment.
Likewise, he suggested joining efforts to respond effectively to global challenges such as climate change and the Covid-19 pandemic.
In dialogue to which the press had access, Joe Biden also referred to those aspects in which Washington and Beijing disagree, such as human rights, economy and influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
