¨We have more work to do,¨ Biden says, pledges more Covid-19 tests

Washington, Dec 27 (Prensa Latina) President Joe Biden on Monday pledged to ease a shortage of Covid-19 tests as the Omicron variant threatened to overwhelm hospitals and stifle travel plans as it spreads across the United States this holiday week.

“Seeing how tough it was for some folks to get a test this weekend shows that we have more work to do,” Biden said as he joined a call with the administration’s Covid-19 response team and state governors. “It’s clearly not enough.”

To avoid long lines, President Biden ordered the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to establish pop-up sites in several places such as New York City.

Biden said his administration’s steps include using the Defense Production Act to boost at-home test manufacturing and making it easier to use the Google search engine to find a nearby testing location.

Such a decision to dole out evidence comes at a complex time for the US president, who pledged to curb the pandemic, and now Covid-19 kills over 1,000 US citizens every day and also spreads astonishingly.

The United States is currently experiencing a coronavirus surge, many of them are children, even though local authorities assured that thanks to the country´s vaccination campaign, hospitalizations, Covid-19 case numbers have not increased sharply.

The United States is the nation that has reported highest coronavirus toll globally since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Covid-19 as a pandemic since March 2020.
