Speaking to the press, Ambassador Jorge Luis Pedroso stated that the fuel blockade Cuba is undergoing, alongside with other measures that have drastically intensified the embargo, is “an act of genocide, a form of collective punishment, and a massive, flagrant, and systematic violation of the human rights of the Cuban people.”
The diplomat emphasized that tomorrow’s debate at the UN General Assembly is marked by the urgency and gravity of the situation facing the island. “This is not a hypothetical scenario of aggression, nor is it based on a mere risk assessment. It is an ongoing, multidimensional aggression—economic, political, and informational—that also encompasses the possibility of military aggression,” he stressed.
The Cuban ambassador highlighted that Cuba is not, nor could it ever be, a threat to the United States.
“The only threat to the existence and well-being of the Cuban people is the intensified and tightened blockade imposed by the United States,” he asserted.
Pedroso expressed his conviction that the General Assembly would reaffirm its commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, particularly the sovereign equality of states, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
“We have no doubt that Cuba will once again have the support of the international community,” he concluded.
