Anti-Covid-19 vaccination in Cuba reaches 96.6 percent of children

Cuba, Covid-19, vacunación, pediátrica
Havana, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) Anti-Covid-19 immunization in Cuba reached 1.7 million children between the ages of two and 18, which represents 96.6 percent of that population group, an official source reported today.

As part of the massive pediatric campaign, 5.1 million doses of Soberana02 and Soberana Plus were applied, the Finlay Institute of Vaccines, the entity that develops these drugs, detailed through the social network Twitter.

The decision to vaccinate children over two years of age against Covid-19 put this Caribbean island at the forefront of the world in immunization, the principal investigator of clinical trials at Soberana 02 María Eugenia Toledo said a week ago.

During an intervention in the radio television space Mesa Redonda, the specialist highlighted that this product was designed from the beginning for the country’s infants.

That determination is backed by years of history and prestige of the development of Cuban vaccines for the little ones, said Toledo, who explained that they continue to evaluate the impact of the vaccination campaign on children between the ages of two and 18 throughout the nation.

Until that date, 1.6 million children had received two doses of Soberana 02 plus one of Soberana Plus at an interval of 28 days.

Of that total -explained the expert- only 367 adverse events were reported and in two they were serious, but local and related to vaccination.

Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus for infants have emergency use authorization in Iran, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

The Cuban Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, on the other hand, disclosed a few days ago that it is working on a study with the anti-Covid-19 Abdala vaccine in children under two years of age.
