Executive Secretary of the World Peace Council to visit Cuba

Havana, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) The executive secretary of the World Peace Council (CMP), Iraklis Tsavdaridis, will arrive in Cuba on February 23 on an official visit, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) reported here.

According to the press release, the visitor will hold talks with the country’s authorities, as well as with representatives of civil society, directors of the institution, and will also offer a conference on regional conflicts.

Invited to Cuba by Icap, Tsavdaridis will visit the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, the Denunciation memorial, a community in transformation, and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

Likewise, he will receive information on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in the Caribbean nation and the achievements of its scientists.

As part of the program, the exchange of information on the aggressions of the United States and its economic blockade on the island is expected.

Other topics that will focus the meetings will be the preparation of the 22nd World Assembly of the CMP, scheduled for the end of August this year, and the organization of the regional meeting for America-Caribbean, in which Cuba has a responsibility as coordinator.

According to Icap, the talks will also deal with the holding of the 7th International Peace Seminar and for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases.

Tsavdaridis is a member of the Communist Party of Greece and has visited the island more than 50 times. He will remain in the country until Tuesday, March 1.
