According to the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yerevan urges a diplomatic solution to the existing problems between Russia and Ukraine, “two friendly countries,” on the basis of the regulations and principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

“We hope that the necessary steps will be taken to reduce tension and resolve the situation peacefully,” Hunanyan told Armenpress news agency.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved Russia’s recognition of the sovereignty of the DPR and LPR and signed treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik, the heads of the DNR and LNR, respectively.

Putin directed the relevant agencies to establish diplomatic relations with those republics and ensure to preserve peace in the rebel territories of Donbass.
