Mexican lawmakers postpone debate on electrical reform

Mexico City, Apr 12 (Prensa Latina) The Political Coordination Board of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico reportedly agreed to postpone the discussion of the electricity reform, initially scheduled for Tuesday, until Sunday.

Ignacio Mier, coordinator of the ruling party Morena, argued that his group made this proposal so that the draft opinion approved in the joint commissions of Energy and Constitutional Points is socialized and the legislators have more elements to think overtheir vote.

Mier said that in this way the chamber can be expected to meet on Sunday morning to consider the opinion published and that later that same day, when another session will be convened to carry out the vote.

Jorge Romero, coordinator of the opposition National Action Party (PAN) in the chamber, considered for his part that Morena has the votes to make the decision, but stressed that they will not accept the reform against which they will vote to benefit foreign companies such as the Spanish Iberdrola and others from the United States.

He confirmed that Morena and allies do not have the vote of the PAN nor the Va por México coalition, which includes the Institutional Revolutionary, Democratic Revolutionary and Citizen Movement parties.
