Cuba to vaccinate against SARS-CoV-2 children under two years of age
Havana, May 10 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban scientific community is currently preparing several clinical trials aimed at children under two years of age, who have not received a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine.

With 1.8 million children between the ages of two and 11 already vaccinated as part of the campaign, the results of the application of the vaccines in this population show the safety of the vaccines.

The strategy in children under two years of age, who represent three percent of the Cuban pediatric population, is focused on three groups: between zero and six months, between six and 11 months and between 12 and 24 months.

Children under six months must be protected through maternal vaccination and breastfeeding, since they are born with antibody levels similar to those of their already immunized mothers, in this case with the Abdala vaccine.

The new clinical trial will be carried out in children between one and two years old using the Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus vaccines, and will be carried out in the province of Cienfuegos. Soberana future will be added to it, in children between seven and 11 months.

The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology is also working on an immunization strategy against Covid-19 in children under two years of age using the Abdala vaccine, in the province of Camagüey, according to the director of clinical research, Verena Mucio.
